Limestone

Limestone is a sedimentary rock made up of calcite (calcium carbonate), sometimes also including magnesium carbonate. The latter, however, may contain other carbonate minerals such as aragonite and dolomite, the latter being mostly found in dolomitic limestone.

Common limestones are compact rocks with a macroscopic non-crystalline appearance, consisting essentially of fine grains of calcite.
